VOLUNTEERS

Volunteering at the Fringe

The Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival would not be possible without the support of its 350+ volunteers every summer. Volunteers fill over 900 shifts needed to get the festival up and running. Their enthusiasm and dedication are two of the ingredients that make the Fringe Festival an enjoyable and friendly experience for patrons, performers and staff.

The Fringe is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us provide services to our 46,000 patrons and 800 performers at the more than 20 venues during the festival. If you are interested in helping us put on the festival we have a variety of volunteer activities to choose from:
• Assisting venue House Managers with ticket sales and ushering.
• Providing assistance to our patrons and volunteers at our information tent.
• Answering patron inquiries on the Fringe Hotline.
• Helping at the The Fringe Club and with the nightly Fringe Cabaret series.
There are also many special events throughout the year that volunteers can get involved in.

Our volunteers never work alone and always have a trained House Manger or staff member nearby to answer any questions or concerns that may arise during a volunteer shift.

Fringe volunteers provide a valuable service to the festival and as a way of saying thank you the Fringe offers its volunteers:
• a FREE pass to any Fringe show for every volunteer shift worked (approximately 4 hours).
• a Fringe souvenir (t-shirt, book bag or other item).
• a volunteer appreciation party on the closing weekend of the festival.

Joining the Fringe volunteer team is also an excellent opportunity to support and be a valuable part of one of the most exciting theatre events of the year and an excellent volunteer experience that makes a great addition to any resume.

If you are interested in joining the Fringe Volunteer team please complete a Volunteer Registration Form. If you are under 16 please have your parent or guardian sign and return a Parent Guardian Authorization Letter.
For more information about the various volunteer opportunities at the Fringe please don't hesitate to contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@fringetoronto.com or call (416) 966-1062.

If your summer schedule does not allow you to join our volunteer corps but you would still like to support the festival, please consider becoming a “Friend of the Fringe" by making a charitable donation.

Billeting a Touring Performer

Every year the Toronto Fringe welcomes a variety of National and International artists. As you can imagine traveling from festival to festival can be a costly endeavor. In order to encourage artists to continue touring their work, the Fringe works hard to offer them a free place to stay while performing at our Fringe. A spare bed, couch or comfy piece of floor is greatly appreciated by touring artists and can go a long way to help make the Fringe circuit a cost-effective means of showcasing new work across the country.

We here at the Fringe office also take careful consideration in matching hosts and guests appropriately. People who offer artists a place to stay are encouraged to fill in a form where they can detail their guest preferences. Artists interesting in being billeted are also required to fill in a detailed questionnaire so that the Fringe can best match everyone up. Once paired up, the Fringe will ensure that you are contacted so that you can give your final approval on the artist we wish to assign to you. Many a great friendship have blossomed from the Fringe billeting program and it is a great way to show your support for the festival.

In addition to our heartfelt thanks, for your generosity, the Toronto Fringe will offer a VIP 6 pass (good for six free fringe admission which you can book in advance) to each household that billets a Fringe performer.

If you or someone you know is interested in billeting a performer during this year's Fringe Festival, please feel free to fill in the billeting form and email it to marketing@fringetoronto.com or mail it to us at address listed at the bottom of this letter. If you have any questions about billeting a performer, please contact the Fringe at 416-966-1062.
