How to Fringe

With so many shows to choose from, getting started at the Fringe can be more than a little daunting. This program, hopefully dog-eared and well loved by the end of the Festival, is your guide to getting the most out of your Fringe days. To get you going, here are a few pointers…

Information is key.
To get current information, check out www.fringetoronto.com for Fringe updates, or www.eyeweekly.com for live play reviews and a chance to comment on plays you’ve seen. For the Insider’s Scoop, The Fringe Harold newsletter has all the information you’ll need, so pick up a copy at our venues. And don’t be shy - send us your letters and comments to harold@fringetoronto.com or drop them off in person at the Info Booth at the Fringe Club, 292 Brunswick Avenue.

When in doubt, call!
If you have any questions about plays or the festival, call the Fringe Hotline (416) 966-1062 (10am-8pm). If you’re on site, drop by the info tent at the Fringe Club.

Know your place.
Once you’ve found a play you want to attend, check our venue map to find the location of the theatre. There’s limited parking around the Fringe site, so we suggest you use public transit, cycle or walk. Give yourself plenty of time - there are absolutely no latecomers admitted to plays.

Prepare for the best.
If you’re planning on putting in a full day of Fringing, it’s good to come equipped. Here are some things you may find useful:

snacks
drinks
hat
sunglasses
sunscreen
jellybeans
umbrella
hand fan
small sandwiches with the crusts cut off

Hear and be heard…
Part of the fun of the Fringe is finding out what plays other patrons are enjoying and passing on tips about the plays you’ve seen. So the next time you’re standing in line, say “Hi” to the person next to you and compare notes. Or go to www.eyeweekly.com and post your own review online.
To let us know how we’re doing, fill out a survey at any Fringe venue.

Show your appreciation.
If you have a really good time at the Fringe, we would appreciate your support when our friendly House Managers ask you to “Tip the Fringe”.
