OAC Theatre Creators' Reserve

The Fringe of Toronto is proud to participate in the Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creators' Reserve program. As a third party recommender, we are able to allocate funds based on the merit of a project that are subject to final approval at the council level. As a recommender we adhere to the priority of our mandate.

When selecting artists to recommend, we are interested in proposals that if successful would support:

  • artists from demographics that are under-represented in the performing arts community
  • work by new and diverse artists who’s access to development support is limited either by a lack of experience/reputation or other circumstances
  • unique and unexpected methods of story-telling
  • artists who are developing their work in new and innovative ways
  • emerging artists
  •

    Application Procedures

Application Forms are available on the Ontario Arts Council website.

Applications will be divided into two tiers of experience - Emerging and Established

Each section of support material will be assigned a numerical point grade

Supplementary materials will be considered for a bonus of up to 5 points

NOTE: The primary focus of your application should be the Project Outline.

    Application Material

Along with an application form, applicants are requested to submit the following:

(Hard Copy, CD or DVD are acceptable unless otherwise noted)

  • Script sample (20 pages maximum)
  • A story synopsis
  • A project outline, detailing what the artist hopes to achieve with this phase of funding as well as the overall vision for the project
  • Short Bio of involved artist or artists
  • Supplementary Material. CD, DVD only (music, photos, etc)

  • Grant Allocation

Dollar amounts will be determined by the level of the artist (emerging or established), the level of their needs (what the grant is needed for – workshop, writer’s subsidy, etc), and the number grade of the entire application. Requests can be for $1000-$5000.

Projects will not be reviewed until our submission deadline which is October 5th, 2009.

The Creators Reserve program runs from August 24, 2009 to February 26, 2010 and projects will not be reviewed until our submission deadline.
